How to Export

Learn how to export projects in Fable.

Fable supports a wide range of export settings, so your projects are formatted to fit their intended destination.

Exporting

  • Locate the Export Button

    • Find it in the upper right of the Editor.

  • Initiate Export

    • Click EXPORT on the Header.

  • Customize Export Settings

    • Click the + button in the Export Panel.

    • Adjust settings in the Export Settings Modal.

  • Finalize Export

    • Click EXPORT again.

    • The Export Modal will close, and your project will join the processing queue.

  • Monitor Progress

    • Check the progress bar on the export panel.

  • Download Your File

    • Once complete, click the download icon to save the file locally.

  • Access Previous Exports

    • Processed exports are stored on the Export Panel indefinitely.

Export modal details

  • File Name

    • Customize the export name (defaults to "Untitled").

  • Preset

    • Choose common export settings for destinations (YouTube, Vimeo, etc.).

  • Export Window

    • Control the exported project timeline inclusion (appears when the work area is shorter than the project duration).

  • Frame Size

    • Resize export to a specified scale or dimensions.

  • Advanced Options

    • Customize export settings further based on format.

Export formats

Video
  • H.264

    • The default choice for video exports. Choose VP9 instead if you need alpha transparency support.

  • Pro Res

    • For video editing and post-production. Fable can export ProRes Proxy, LT, Standard, HQ, 4444, and 4444XQ.

  • VP9

    • Ideal for webpage embedding. Used by YouTube for 1440p and 4K videos.

  • H.265

    • Good for smaller file sizes with maintained quality. Only some browsers/devices support it.

  • AV1

    • Newest codec for smaller files without sacrificing quality. Many browsers/devices don’t yet support it.

  • WebM

    • Open video format for multimedia content. Stores files according to compression standards to optimize online streaming.

Vector Animation - Lottie
  • Export Lottie JSON files for web pages or apps.

Image

For a GIF, a single-frame image, or an image sequence.

  • GIF

    • Share clips and animations. Does not support alpha transparency/more than 256 colors per frame.

  • PNG

    • Similar to animated GIFs, but does support alpha transparency/more than 256 colors per frame.

  • WebP

    • Smallest animated files with full color and transparency support. Widely supported.

While GIFs support transparent backgrounds, they do not support semi-transparency. So, if your project has some layers that are not 100% opacity, use an alternate format.

How do I export something with a transparent background?

  • Turn off the canvas background in Project Settings.

  • Choose a format supporting transparency: VP9, ProRes 4444, or PNG. If your canvas background is turned off, the automatic preset will export a VP9 file.

How do I export a video with alpha?

  • Turn off the canvas background in Project Settings.
