Scenes

OVERVIEW
Scenes speed up your workflow and keep designs consistent by enabling you to create a re-usable package of layers and effects that can be inserted anywhere in your project
About Scenes
Each Scene has an independent Canvas and Timeline on which you can create layers and animate properties independent from your main project.
There are 2 aspects to scenes:
- Primary Scene - this is the space you edit layers and effects within your scene. Any changes you make to the primary scene will affect all Instances.
- Instance - this is the copy of a scene that is added to your projects. Instances inherit all changes made to Primary scenes.
Scenes allow you to create complex compositions while retaining macro-level control over your design. Anytime you find yourself copy + pasting or duplicating elements within your project, consider using Scenes to stay in control and keep your timeline manageable.

Creating a Scene
There are a few ways to create a Scene in Fable, after each of these options, the scene will be added to your Project's Asset Browser as a tab.
A. New Scene Button:
You can create a scene at any time using the New Scene button at the top of the editor interface. At the top of the editor interface, click the (+) button to the right of your project tab. A new Scene tab will appear to the right of your Project tab.

- Select one or more layers
- The Secondary Toolbar will display
- Click the button at the bottom of the Toolbar to Create Scene with the selected layers
- A modal will appear that lets you name your scene
C. Timeline Context Menu
- Select multiple layers on the Timeline using SHIFT + LMB
- Right click the layers
- The Timeline Context Menu should appear
- Click the Create new scene option on the context menu
- A modal will appear that lets you name your scene
D. Canvas Context Menu
- Select multiple layers on the Canvas

Accessing and Editing Scenes
Opening and Editing Scenes
If you'd like to open a Scene to edit or view it:
- Open the Asset Browser
- Double Click the Scene you'd like to open (mouse may need to be on scene icon)
- The scene will open as a new project tab within the Fable Editor
Once a Scene is open, it can also be accessed on the project tab bar at the top of the Canvas.
If you have a Timeline open that has a Scene on it, you can also edit the scene in the following ways:
- On the Timeline, Double Click the Scene you'd like to open and edit
- On the Canvas, Right Click the Scene you'd like to open and edit. Then click the "Edit Scene" option on the canvas context menu
Adding Scenes to the Timeline
Scenes can be added to any Timeline – the main project timeline or even other scene timelines.
To add Scenes to the Timeline:
- Open the Asset Browser
- Drag the Scene you'd like to add onto the Timeline
Detaching a Scene on the Timeline
Each instance of a Scene on your timeline will be an identical copy. If you'd like to detach a specific instance of a scene, so it will no longer be directly editable on the primary scene instance, you can do any of the following.
Detaching a scene on the Timeline:
- Right Click the Scene on the Timeline
- Click the Detach Scene option on the timeline context menu
Detaching a scene on the Canvas:
- Right Click the Scene on the Canvas
- Click the Detach Scene option on the canvas context menu
Exporting a Scene
For now a workaround is:
- Make sure your Scene is labeled clearly
- Place the scene you want to export into your root project timeline from your asset browser
- Hide all other layers in main timeline, if any
- Export
